Before the sun arises and my eyes are open wide,
sounds of screaming children help the sun arise.
Thrust my feet onto the floor, OK, I’m out of bed.
Screams of hunger rattle in the kitchen, enough to wake the dead.
As pots and pans do clatter upon the kitchen floor,
these screaming children of mine refuse to eat once more.
Now trying to dress them before we leave today,
Where are your shoes? I always have to say.
The answer always the same, as the day before,
I can’t find mind them Mom! with a slamming door.
To the car, now where are my keys?
Look a little harder, upon my bruised knee.
Strap them in, screaming all the way,
we are finally to school for another day.
Off the work, my car must fly,
before the boss says goodbye.
Bellows from down the hall,
pierce my ear drums, with every call.
And so it goes all through the day,
until at last I’m home to stay.
Now the cries louder yet,
What’s for dinner and where’s the pet?
Bedtime finally arrives, not a moment to soon.
Brush your teeth, wash your face, say good night to the moon.
Once in bed, I hear a cry I’m thirsty Mom! form out of the blue.
So I water them, what else is a Mom to do?
Take a deep breath, I’m alone at last,
oh, but look, the house is trashed!
Do the laundry, wash dishes too,
just four more hours and my day is through.
