Poem

Lullabies

The moon hung full in the evening sky
as two lovers walked along
she holding and petting his hand
while he recited the words to a lovers song

The song spoke of loves true end
when a simple loving glance
and shared tender moments
reflected the years of their romance

He in his age
still walked with the peacock plume
and she in her age
still blushed, and tended to swoon

The children and others that followed
thought how sweet they looked together
the old man swooped her from her feet
for to him she was young, and as light as a feather

He sang his song to her again
as they walked through the gardens all
neither wanted this moment to pass
and be returned, to the rest home hall

Ya see…
others made the decisions now
when it came to their lives and being
but this one small place was hidden
the love songs he sang to her, were freeing

He sang to her some lullabies
but at times he’d lose his way
his mind was not what it was
when they first came her to stay

Take us home he’d rant and rave
not knowing his home was sold
the oldest child had felt it best
for now she was grown, and very bold

Now at dusk in the garden
you can see them alone in the mist
he singing a remembered lovers tune
as she smiles; not understanding fates twist
