Poem

She Says A Couple We Will Not Be

My fair love says she doesn’t love me
So I must I must I must
with splinters from this oft-worn wood across my back
my side again pierced
go on without her

She says a couple we will not be
not timing not circumstance to fix
She says a couple we should not be
So what more to say to my fine fair love?
the love that will not love me?

A broken man so many times broken
I continue unhindered
for with too many injuries to the heart
I’ve learned to live without it beating

Though there are ten thousand tears awaiting
awaiting my eyes’ worn out flood gates
They dare not surface, leaving me to ponder
My fair love says she doesn’t love me
she says a couple we will not be
