Poem

The River

Flashes of lightning bear Wanting's deep lust
While thunder roars of Needing's sharp thrusts

Churning, fearful, clouds do stifle warm rays,
Cloud thy thoughts with Love's enemy Haze

Visions of you in a steady rain
Fall to be environed in this river of pain

The storm lingers long, not wanting to accept
The reality of Love and it's powerful depth

Not able to admit that love will prevail
The storm rages on, fear is love's veil

The waters race with want and desire
The angry river creeps higher and higher

The floodgates close to fight the tears
A river of memories, dreams, and fears

But streams of love, sweet-soft do flow
To soften the rush of this bittersweet blow

Overflowing with thoughts of you
Raging with love, clear-blue, and true

The times we've shared drop soft and slow
And splash amongst the fallen, below

Sinister dark clouds that hid this emotion
Could not withstand true love and devotion

Your smile shines brightly, high above
Casting reflections of a new-found love

It's light breaks through all previous fear
To purify this river and dry up these tears.
