The Simple Things

I like the simple things;
A walk at twilight time,
The call of a whippoorwill,
A towering mountain to climb.

I like the simple things;
Watching a sunrise at dawn,
Seeing the little gray squirrels
Playing on the front lawn.

I like the simple things;
A card or letter to read,
Taking a stroll in the misty rain,
Watching someone do a good deed.

I like the simple things;
Sharing the porch glider with you,
Picking the lovely red roses
Glistening with morning dew.

I like the simple things;
They happen 'most every day,
But only to common folks
Living a simple way.
