Poem

Sunshine

Though Summer soon will reach her waning days,
And clouds assemble in their glowering grays,
Though flowers wilt, and droop their once proud heads,
And bright green foliage fades to browns and reds.

Though butterflies no longer spread their gorgeous wings,
But lark, or nightingale, or thrush no longer sings,
The lonely and disconsolate, seeing Summer go
Deplore the Winter’s onset of imprisoning snow.

But Summer is my ever present guest,
And half a century passed has been the test.
Her sunshine always dwells within my heart,
Uplifting me e’en though we be apart

For she’s my love, my bulwark against strife,
Oft times my lover, always my dear wife.
And though its been a fifty year embrace
There’s no-one who could ever take her place.

Life’s tribulations haven’t passed unfelt,
We’ve faced the woes and sorrows life has dealt,
But nothing life has offered could outweigh
The vows of love made on our wedding day.

I’ve loved her so sincerely, and I know
That in the passing years our love will grow....
Though seasons wax and wane for all the rest;
The sunshine in my heart is manifest,
