This is a poem I composed dedicated to the memory of 'Russ' a10 year old Jack Russell whom we homed from our localR.S.P.C.A.
Look at that puppy mum
Say we can have him, do
His eyes are bright and his legs are strong
And I can tell he likes us too.
I can take him for long walks in the park
And teach him to sit up and beg
I can throw him a ball to fetch right back
And hold up his paw when he's fed.
Look at that old dog mum
Just longing for a home
His eyes are dim and his legs are weak
Come on, let's leave him alone.
He wont go for long walks in the park
And his legs are too weak to beg
If I threw him a ball he wouldn't respond
And he's hardly a tooth in his head.
Now just because they are old and weak
These dogs they all need love
To have a friend in their twilight years
Before they pass to spirit above.
These gentle souls are special dogs
They give you their love untold
So please don't ever pass them by
Just because they are old.
