I walk the lonely streets at night, not knowing where I'm bound;
I sleep in darkened hallways, at times upon the ground;
I feel the pains of hunger, for days I have not eaten;
Afraid to fall asleep at times for fear that I'll be beaten;
There are so many of us that do not have a home;
And so we're destined in this life to always have to roam;
There's some out here by choice you see, but they are not a lot;
And most of us are on the streets because the world forgot;
So when you see us on the street, don't turn your face to hide;
We're just a mirror of yourself stripped naked of our pride;
Your sympathy and pity are things we do not need;
They're only signs to cover guilt so now my friends take heed;
The one thing that we ask of you, I feel it's only fair;
Don't turn away, just smile hello, and keep us in your prayers.
