Just an old man, homeless and who lost all life’s drive
Just an old man, weary and just trying to survive
Here's a dollar, old timer, go get something to eat.
Thank you mister, that sure will be a welcome treat.
Screeching brakes and a loud blare of a horn
The driver standing there, wishing he’d never been born
A figure of a man, lying on the street, people staring
Blood and dirt everywhere and sirens blaring
Looks like another homeless man is gone, for I can see
People everywhere, looking and wondering what is to be
This figure of a man, lying there still and maybe dying
Mothers sighing and children crying
Get a blanket! a shout in the night
No one moves, as they look at the sight
A women kneels, as she gives a big sigh
Father, I’ve found you so please don’t die
A woman of means, next to a big limousine
Holding her father, at this accident scene
Do you know what this man has done?
What he has given to all and to everyone?
This man, I hold here, once protected this nations honor
On a pacific island and not for an instant did he ponder
Give up came a shout in the night, as he stood there so brave
A machine gun blast of bullets, was all the “give up” he gave
A hundred men came at him, while he bravely stood his ground
His eyes never leaving the enemy, as he shot round after round
Not a word nor a sound, came from this mans lips
Only his eyes, showed remorse, as death came from his finger tips
The highest awarded honor, was given one day
By our nations President, on a bright day in may
May this man live in glory, ‘til the day that he dies
Then, forever at Arlington, ‘neath clear deep blue skies
So folks, what you see, as you travel through this life
Is not all that it seems, amid worries and strife
Today, a man died, as only seen by a few
Tomorrow, by millions, when he’s given what’s due
