Just down the road.....around the bend,
Stood the old filling station...the car'sbest friend.
With regular and hi-test; along with oiland grease,
Most even sold tires in order to please.
Hand operated pumps with a container ofglass,
Calibrated to show the purchase of gas.
Texaco Sky Chief and Standard RedCrown,
Were two of the popular brands in town.
Attendants would check radiators orinflate a tire.
Check the oli and wash windows beforethey'd retire.
There was soda pop on ice in a cooleroutside,
But only two or three flavors were there tobe tried.
There were salted peanuts and candybars,
But the choice of snacks was very sparse.
The signs were special; all colors andkinds;
Today they 're collectible and arespecial finds.
Now automation and self service havebecome the trend,
Just down the road.....around the bend.
