I have travelled to far-away places on earth
And around to the top of the world.
I’ve sailed oer the oceans’ immense rolling waves
Through rivers of foaming white swirls.
I’ve journeyed aloft to the highest Swiss peaks,
Heard the echoes of bold Alpine horns.
I have visited places where history was made,
Where heroes and villains were born
Over all of the nautical miles l have sailed
And the terrain of Earth I have trod,
In the vast broad expanses and the tiniest nooks,
I have searched for the presence of God.
I knew not at each time I left on my search
Or when to my home I returned,
How misguided and futile would be such a search,
But at last the pure truth I have learned
In the midst of large crowds, or alone in your home
Or in far away places you’ve been,
The comforting presence of God is within you
Just open your soul and look in.
