Ed Shustack
Poem

Farewell

I stood on a rickety bridge that day
In a quiet glen arm's length away
From a sparkling crystal creek
That winded powerful and sleek
Through a forest fresh and green
A beauty of nature seldom seen
And as I dropped his ashes deep
Into those waters where he would sleep
I thought of days and times long past
Faded memories that sped by fast
Of pain and joy and tears and laughter
Mine to hold forever after
Then the time to go drew near
From this place he loved so dear
And as I turned and walked away
Silently my voice did say
Be at rest where you now dwell
Forever at peace -- Farewell!
