Five words I spoke with hasty tongue,
on target jest that heartless stung.
I still with grief assess the cost,
one precious friend forever lost.
Long afterward, the words I spoke,
unwitting spell that stayed un-broke,
that careless phrase, a poisoned dart
still festers deep in that friends heart.
We can't call back our words once said
so who speaks quick, might sometime dread
what he expressed by artless choice,
a spiteful truth, good friends don't voice.
If I could but relive one day
those bitter words, I'd wipe away
What were those words so mean they'd end
the love and trust of faithful friend?
Its best that my words stay unknown
so you fear, my spite, you'll clone.
Pick your adverbs with extreme care
So you won't risk the loss I bear.
