The Lonely Mother

submitted by Erin Gonzalez

In the small town i grew up in, we hardly had anything to do. My friends and i sat around all the time and told scary stories. Some of the stories were true occurences. One night we were all sitting around. one of my friends started to tell us about Millcreek Bridge. It is a real bridge located in a nearby town. He had told us that a young couple had just had a baby. The baby was only a few weeks old when they decided to go rowing in the river. They all headed down the river, and as they crossed the bridge, the canoe tipped over and the baby fell out. The parents and the police dragged the river but the baby's body was never found. The mother was so upset that she walked along the shore underneath Millcreek Bridge until her death. it is known that she still remains here and you can see her on moonlit nights if you look really hard. It is also known that if you chant "I have your baby" three times she will try to harm you to get to her baby.

I thought that the story was a fake until we all tried it one night on a full moon. We were all sitting in our cars, and we had this plan to say those words one at time. My car was the second. All three cars were facing north side by side so we could see each others faces. The first car with window down, chanted the words. The looks on their faces was terrifying! All their faces were white with fear. It was our turn, my friend rolled down her window and chanted. A few seconds later, we heard punding on the door. All around the car doors of my car were being jiggled as to be opened. We were so freaked out that we decided to leave. If it was the lonely mother of Millcreek Bridge she must have thought we truely did have her baby. I still get goosebumps everytime i think of the story and how I felt when we went to the Bridge. I will never forget it!
